Bristol Motor Speedway (BMS) has joined Keep America Beautiful庐聽and Keep Tennessee Beautiful in a cigarette litter prevention campaign to launch during race weekend, Sept. 19-21. KAB and KTnB will provide聽60 guest-facing cigarette butt聽receptacles to be installed throughout the BMS complex. The butts will then be collected and shipped free to TerraCycle for recycling.
鈥淲e are pleased to partner with Bristol Motor Speedway and their tremendous staff in this massive cigarette butt recycling program,鈥 Missy Marshall, executive director of Keep Tennessee Beautiful, said. 鈥淲e are thankful to BMS for joining with us to help keep cigarette butts out of the landfills of Tennessee. We are also grateful to Keep America Beautiful庐聽for founding this program, and for their tangible support through a designated grant to our organization.鈥
The Cigarette Litter Prevention Program, created by Keep America Beautiful庐 in 2002, is the nation鈥檚 largest program aimed at eliminating cigarette litter.聽Cigarette butts account for 88% of litter 4鈥 or smaller and are the most abundant form of plastic waste in the world.
The joint CLPP project between Keep Tennessee Beautiful and BMS will roll out on Sept.19聽beginning with the Bush鈥檚 Beans 200 and UNOH 200 doubleheader event, Saturday鈥檚 Food City 300 and the Bass Pro Shops Night Race, Sept. 21 at聽罢丑别听Last Great Colosseum.聽The CLPP campaign will continue indefinitely after the race weekend launch.
