The City of New Bedford announces the opening of the Swap Shop. It is a new initiative at the New Bedford Recycling Center that allows residents to drop off and pick up reusable items, completely free of charge! The Swap Shop, located at 1103 Shawmut Avenue, is now officially open and accepting donations of gently used items— specifically books, tableware (such as dishes and silverware), cookware, and bakeware (like pots, pans, and baking sheets).

Instead of throwing away what you no longer need, help reduce waste and strengthen the community by sharing usable items with your neighbors. “Whether you’re decluttering, upgrading your kitchenware, or simply looking for a good book to read, the Swap Shop offers an easy and sustainable way for residents to share and find items they need,” said Jennifer Vieira,
Director of Facilities and Fleet Management.

All items are free to take. Donations are limited to three items per day and must be approved by a Recycling Center attendant before being dropped off. Items must be clean, functional, and in a condition you’d be proud to give—or pleased to receive. The City reserves the right to refuse any item for any reason, regardless of condition or category. All donations are subject to inspection.
