Back by popular demand, the South East Kansas Recycling Center in Pittsburg has reopened — ready to take waste items, at a limited capacity. The center closed just last month due to a lack of funding, but through many donations from city residents, is now operational Fridays and Saturdays.
“It was a lot of small donations, hundreds of small donations. A historic surge for us,” said Perricone. Cassandra Steinbrook, the center’s Operations Manager says she’s touched by the outpouring of support they’ve received from the community.
Cassandra Steinbrook, SEK Recycling, Inc. Operations Manager: “It touches my heart deeply because, you know, with us being a nonprofit, a lot of what keeps us going is grants and donations from the community,” said Steinbrook.
