Four Council Bluffs fourth grade students recently won prize for imaging a “green future.” As part of the fifth annual poster contest sponsored by Red River Waste Solutions and the Council Bluffs Recycling Center, local students were asked to design posters with the theme: 鈥淚magine a Green Future!鈥
Third- and fourth-graders from 12 Council Bluffs schools participated in the contest. Art teachers chose the top two posters from each school to submit to the City Council members to judge and declare the top four winners. The first place prize goes to Abigail Larsen, a fourth-grader at College View Elementary School. Abigail鈥檚 poster depicted green rolling hills and the statement, 鈥淭hink of what this place could be.鈥
Fourth-grader Gwenyth Sudario of Edison Elementary came in second. She imagined a clean future by cleaning up our earth and reducing, reusing and recycling. Addilyn Branon took the third place prize. This College View Elementary fourth-grader depicted what our surroundings could be like if we recycled our way to a green future. Fourth place went to Kevin Nguyen, a fourth-grader at Rue Elementary, who portrayed that people plus recycling equals a better world.
The top four winners acquire cash prizes, sponsored by Red River Waste Solutions, for their schools. First place won $1,250; second place won $1,000; third place won $750, and fourth place won $500. The winning posters will be displayed on the Red River Waste Solutions recycling collection trucks that run in Council Bluffs throughout the year. A recycle truck will debut at the Celebrate CB Parade with the four winning posters.
