Missoula City Council greenlit up to $8.5 million in work to improve Garden City Compost. The project is partially funded by the American Rescue Plan Act. The city considers the current compost site 鈥渁 transitional facility.鈥

Logan McInnis, with the city鈥檚 Public Works Department, told council members last week the improvements would bring the facility into compliance with state law.

鈥淪tate law requires composting to be done in impervious surfaces, but we were granted some period of time to continue composting on basically gravel that could leech into the ground,鈥 McInnis said at a committee meeting last week.
