The months-long suspension of glass recycling in Jefferson County is nearing its end, with services set to resume soon. 聽Starting July 15, the county solid waste team will accept glass at two drop-off locations: the county transfer station, located off Jacob Miller Road, and the Quilcene Rural Drop Box, situated south of the US Forest Ranger Station on Highway 101.
The collection pause came after Strategic Materials 鈥 a Seattle-based glass and recycling processor 鈥 lost one of its largest buyers, Ardagh, which significantly decreased the demand for glass.
The county, according to a press release, received confirmation that the new owner of Strategic Materials resumed operations and can now accept recycled glass from Jefferson County. 聽鈥淲ith new ownership and improved rail service, recycled glass will now be delivered to secondary markets outside of Washington through the Seattle intermediary, Sibelco, a multinational mining and materials corporation,鈥 the release reads.
