Kalamazoo County’s Committee of the Whole discussed a feasibility study into possibly expanding household hazardous waste disposal in the county. The study, done by Resource Recycling Systems, looked into the capacity of the Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Center on Lake Street in Kalamazoo.

“[HHW Center] is really out of space at this time. So we’re looking for new locations to expand the amount of material we can take and the number of participants that that bring material to the site,”said Rachel Grover, director for planning and development for Kalamazoo County.

Kalamazoo County’s Committee of the Whole set aside $250,000 to design and look for a future location for a new facility, estimated to be roughly 12 acres large. County officials are aiming for the new facility to accept other materials that are hard to recycle, like styrofoam and mattresses.
