Kenworth Truck Company鈥檚 assembly plant in Renton, Wash., recently earned a 2015 Best Workplace for Waste Prevention and Recycling Award from the King County (Wash.) Solid Waste Division for exceptional efforts to reduce, reuse and recycle. That marks the seventh consecutive year that Kenworth – Renton has received the award, which enabled the plant to achieve King County鈥檚 prestigious Honor Roll status for the third consecutive year. 鈥淜enworth-Renton employees are dedicated to find even more ways to reduce, reuse and recycle as part of our team effort to achieve continuous improvement and protect the environment,鈥� said Daryl Simon, Kenworth assistant general manager for operations in Kirkland, Wash. 鈥淲e have a goal of zero waste to the landfill for our very comprehensive and important waste prevention and recycling program. We thank King County鈥檚 Solid Waste Division for this special Honor Roll recognition of the Kenworth-Renton plant鈥檚 environmental efforts.鈥�
Kenworth 鈥� Renton鈥檚 Zero Waste to Landfill initiative features the recycling of paper, cardboard, wood, plastics, metals, engine oils, antifreeze, batteries, electronics, light bulbs, toner cartridges, and cooking oil used in the cafeteria. The Kenworth program includes use of returnable shipping containers, recycling of wood pallets, reduced packaging material, and waste-stream segregation. In addition, Kenworth-Renton鈥檚 cafeteria has a composting program for food waste and food service items. A comprehensive energy management system also helps to minimize environmental impact. Kenworth鈥檚 plants in Renton, Wash., and Chillicothe, Ohio, both hold the prestigious ISO 14001:2004 certification for effective environmental management systems established to help build Class 8 trucks in an environmentally sustainable manner. Kenworth鈥檚 medium duty products are produced at the PACCAR manufacturing facility in Ste. Therese, Quebec, which also holds ISO 14001:2004 status.
