The City of Lakewood is planning a newly announced pilot fluorescent light bulb recycling program. The initiative is being funded by a recently awarded $1,585 Cuyahoga County Solid Waste District 2025 Special Project Grant.
鈥淲e get a lot of residents at times asking questions about what they can do with the old light bulbs,鈥 Lakewood Public Works Director Chris Gordon said. 鈥淎fter constantly reaching out to the solid waste district about where residents can take light bulbs when they鈥檙e done with them, this special project grant became available. It was one of those things internally where we have some discussions and said let鈥檚 give this a shot and see how it goes.鈥
Lakewood鈥檚 Division of Refuse & Recycling will use the grant to purchase universal boxes for bulbs, pay drop-off and bulb recycling fees with Enviroserve and print recycling information cards. The city has a goal of collecting 800 bulbs at the Lakewood Refuse and Recycling Center throughout the duration of the grant. The program is expected to start this spring.
