Long Beach residents will soon be able to properly dispose of their organic waste — ranging from food scraps to yard trimmings — as the city begins distributing green waste cans to select neighborhoods. The first phase of the city’s green cart roll out will kick off the week of Monday, Oct. 14.
“Residents located in phase one service areas will receive a brand-new green cart during the week of Oct. 14, specifically for collecting yard trimmings and food scraps,” the city said. “Additionally, new blue carts will be introduced for recycling, while purple carts will be retired from service and properly recycled.”
There are more than 8,000 single family and multifamily homes within the first phase of the rollout, including a residential area bounded by Ocean Boulevard to the south, East Seventh Street to the north, and Temple and Junipero avenues to the east and west.
