During an event hosted by Kriete Truck Centers at its Madison, Wisconsin location, the commercial truck and equipment dealer, together with Mack Trucks, officially handed over two Mack LR Electric Class 8 refuse models to the City of Madison. The two LR Electric vehicles are the first fully electric Class 8 refuse trucks in the State of Wisconsin.

鈥淲e are excited that the City of Madison chose Mack to fulfill its refuse collection needs while also helping them move the needle toward their sustainability goals,鈥 said Jonathan Randall, president of Mack Trucks North America. 鈥淐ongratulations to the City for taking this important step in reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, while offering a quieter solution for refuse and recycling operations. And thanks to Kriete Truck Centers for partnering with us on this delivery.鈥

The two zero tailpipe emissions trucks delivered to the City are a Mack LR Electric with a Leach rear-loader and a Mack LR Electric with a Labrie Automated Side Loader (ASL). During the event, the City demonstrated how the ASL worked, spotlighting the durability and quietness of the collection.

聽 鈥淔ive years ago, Madison had no electric vehicles in its fleet,鈥 said Madison Mayor Satya Rhodes-Conway. 鈥淭oday, we have more than 100 full electric vehicles, 150 hybrids, and, thanks to the Biden-Harris administration, 62 new electric buses that will serve our bus rapid transit system. Electrifying heavy-duty vehicles is on the forefront of zero-emissions technology. Madison will help demonstrate the performance of these new electric garbage trucks in real-world conditions and help quantify the long-term savings associated with eliminating fossil fuel costs and reducing maintenance expenses.鈥

Madison has set a goal as part of its Climate Forward Agenda of reaching 100 percent renewable energy and net-zero carbon emissions for city operations by 2030 and community wide by 2050. The Mack LR Electric models delivered to Madison will operate out of the east side Streets Division site. Madison currently has the largest municipal electric vehicle fleet in Wisconsin.

鈥淥ur job is to provide customers with transportation solutions that help them achieve their goals,鈥 said David Kriete, president and CEO of Kriete Truck Centers.听 鈥淭he City of Madison is committed to being good stewards of the environment, and we鈥檙e grateful for the opportunity to be part of their journey.鈥
