VDL Translift has launched the VORAX rear loader. VDL Translift are well known across the world for supplying their side loader waste collection equipment to both public and private sector waste collection operators. These products have two types of compaction mechanism: block or screw type. The equipment can be supplied either fixed onto its chassis or supplied in demountable form, using the company鈥檚 chain lift system. Five years ago, the company developed an electric side loader and since its launch, fifty units have entered service worldwide. VDL Translift has extensive experience in mounting their products onto both diesel and compressed natural gas low emission chassis in various axle configurations. The company is always looking to increase its product portfolio to meet customer requirements and saw the opportunity to fill a niche in the rear loader market with their VORAX unit. The company felt that there was enough standard rear loading unit options already available on the European market for domestic waste collection. Therefore, it turned its attention to designing and building a rear loader specifically for the collection of industrial waste. VDL鈥檚 Dronten facility worked with its Eindhoven Headquarters to bring the product to fruition, making sure that its design had the operator in mind. Its key advantage is its packing mechanism, which is of a swing link design. This gives reduced maintenance costs compared to the traditional slide block compaction mechanisms offered by its competitors. The swing link design also directs more compaction force into the load, thus achieving a high payload. When the packer blade is cycled, the minimum amount of hydraulic oil needed to compress the waste is provided by the equipment鈥檚 hydraulics, which is yet another advantage. This reduces excess usage of hydraulic oil and also improves emissions. The design of this new product improves whole life costs and, because of its limited number of moving parts, reduces the risk of the equipment needing either major repair or refurbishment. The VORAX carries the latest equipment safety features and complies fully with CE marking, PM and EN regulations. Inside the cab, the unit鈥檚 operating controls are of the latest design, which enhances the unit鈥檚 performance. In the future, the VORAX will also have the option of being fitted with a roof mounted crane for underground waste collection. Daf鈥檚 new XD Series Euro 6 compliant 6x2 mid link steer 26,000kgs chassis carries the VORAX units which have been purchased by Cleanmat, while the electric powered Renault D Wide Z.E. chassis carries the units purchased by Renewi. The VORAX, however, can be mounted onto any kind of suitable European or International truck chassis. The first three units will shortly commence field trials and after completion, VDL Translift will fulfil deliveries of other VORAX rear loaders. The unit will also be exhibited at the RDD exhibition on 14th and 15th May. VDL Translift has a reputation for building high quality waste collection equipment with low maintenance costs. The addition of the VORAX rear loader to its product portfolio will provide both public and private sector waste contractors with an alternative brand of rear loading unit with a big appetite for eating industrial waste. The professionalism of VDL Translift鈥檚 management and international sales team, combined with its after sales service department, will guarantee customers a first class rear loading waste collection unit backed up by a superb after sales service network.
