A recently-opened 62,000 square foot recycling facility in Baldwin County has caught the eyes of Mobile leaders as a destination for the City鈥檚 recycling refuse. The facility which officially opened in March is run by the Solid Waste Disposal Authority of Baldwin County can handle an estimated 40,000 tons of materials per year.

The agreement, if passed, would run for three years and be capped at $90,000 per year. The city would pay SWDA $43 per ton for single stream commercial materials, $25 per ton for contaminated recyclables, and $20 per ton for separated recyclables, such as aluminum cans, plastics, mixed paper.

With the opening of the facility, the SWDA just announced that curbside recycling pickup will begin on June 2nd in areas of Daphne in the first phase rollout of county-wide pickup.
