My Green Michigan, the state鈥檚 largest food waste recycler, has acquired Oakland County-based CO Sustainability, bringing together two established providers of organics collection services to expand coverage and capacity across Southeast Michigan.

鈥淐O Sustainability has built a strong customer family 鈥 from small businesses and restaurants to schools and hotels,鈥 said Cliff Walkington, Partner at My Green Michigan. 鈥淏y joining forces with their experienced team, we鈥檙e creating a stronger, more comprehensive network while keeping the personal service both companies are known for.鈥

My Green Michigan began servicing CO Sustainability customers earlier this month, with no immediate changes to pricing. Any changes to pick-up schedules will be communicated in advance. 鈥淚t鈥檚 been an honor to support our community鈥檚 sustainability goals,鈥 said Mark Cherry, CEO of CO Sustainability. 鈥淭his partnership ensures our customers will keep getting the service they expect, with even more resources behind it.鈥

One of CO Sustainability鈥檚 largest customers, Royal Oak Public Schools, operates food recycling programs in eight buildings. They now join My Green Michigan鈥檚 growing list of K-12 and university partners, which includes the University of Michigan, Eastern Michigan University and Central Michigan University, among others.

Composting food waste carries a multitude of benefits, such as: improving water and air quality by reducing waste, pollution and methane emissions; diverting organics from landfills; generating local revenue and creating jobs; producing soil that grows healthier foods, diminishes runoff and reduces the need for synthetic fertilizers; building community engagement; and helping residents, businesses and municipalities achieve their sustainability goals.

My Green Michigan鈥檚 customer list includes Bell鈥檚 Brewery and Eccentric Caf茅, Chick-fil-A, Forgotten Harvest, HopCat, Chipotle and the Detroit Zoo. In addition to subscription cart service and roll-off dumpsters for businesses, the company partners with municipalities to offer food waste drop-off sites across Portage, Lansing, Meridian Township, Ferndale, Canton Township, Madison Heights and Eastpointe.

Earlier this year, My Green Michigan received the Award of Excellence in Recycling from the Michigan Recycling Coalition, which recognizes 鈥渋nnovative and inspiring programs and leaders who have made a difference in Michigan.鈥
