A cross-industry聽steering聽group has published a report that highlights the developments of the Food Waste Recycling Action Plan (FWRAP)聽in its first year.

Supported by WRAP, the FWRAP聽steering聽group聽has聽worked to identify blockages to the supply chain that restrains potential collection and recycling of food waste.

FWRAP Steering Group聽chair聽Ray Georgeson has said that the two most useful聽findings聽have been the Cost Benefit Analysis Tool and the new industry guidance, that helps聽anaerobic digestion聽operators handle the challenges of the collection of household waste.

According to the聽report,聽49 local authorities have looked into聽the practicalities of聽implementing separate food waste collections, and there is an increased use of the聽Kerbside聽Costing Tool.

The report also illustrates other accomplishments made in the first year of FWRAP, including:

A good level of聽engagement聽from food waste collectors

Over 100 cross-industry users in the first year

2,500 downloads of targeted resources to make recycling and food waste clearer to households

Practical guidance for decreasing contamination levels.

Focusing on year聽two聽of the FWRAP, the Steering Group’s main goal will be to engage with collectors and treatment plant operators to increase the impact of the action plan, and maximise the quantity of post-consumer food waste that is collected and recycled.
