Over the last 10 years, MRC has recycled 2.7 million mattresses in Connecticut and Rhode Island. In our recently filed annual reports, MRC Connecticut recycled 212,789 mattresses between July 1, 2024, and June 30, 2025, and Rhode Island recycled 87,551 mattresses during that same time span. Connecticut recycled more than 3,600 tons and Rhode Island more than 1,400 tons.

MRC Connecticut began in 2015 and has recycled nearly 1.9 million mattresses. Rhode Island launched in 2016 and has recycled more than 825,000 mattresses. Both states offer a commercial volume program with the primary sources being:

  • Mattress Retailers 鈥 34,800 Connecticut units and 3,850 in Rhode Island
  • Education 鈥 More than 7,000 mattresses from Connecticut educational institutions and more than 700 in Rhode Island
  • Military 鈥 Over 1,600 units from Connecticut sources and over 200 from Rhode Island

鈥淥ver the past decade, we鈥檝e built strong statewide networks that keep mattresses out of the trash, support local jobs, and give new life to materials that would otherwise go to waste,鈥 said Dan McGowan, MRC鈥檚 Northeast Program Manager. 鈥淭he Bye Bye Mattress program is a win for the environment, for communities, and for the region鈥檚 economy.鈥
