East Central University is taking a big step in cleaning the environment by turning recycled material into unique garden decor. The school鈥檚 glass recycling program is transforming one man鈥檚 trash into another man鈥檚 treasure by creating pavestones from old glass bottles.鈥淭rash is only trash if you waste it,鈥 Adrian Ohdiambo, the program鈥檚 director said. 鈥淲hat we鈥檙e doing with our glass bottles is we鈥檙e trying to reclaim these bottles. We鈥檙e trying to reuse them, recycle them and after recycling, we鈥檙e trying to introduce new value to them.鈥

If the bottles are not reusable, they repurpose them. First, they grind the glass into a sand-like material and pour it into a concrete mix. Finally, they will pour the mix into a mold, turning the waste material into a beautiful piece of art. One way you could help is by donating any old bottles you have to the program.

鈥淗ow we ask the community to help us is by bringing these bottles to us because at the end of the day, our main goal is trying to prevent bottles from overfilling our already overflowing landfills.鈥
