Gov. Andy Beshear announced $6.2 million for 70 projects to expand recycling, reduce the amount of solid waste going into landfills, and improve the handling of household hazardous waste. 鈥淭hese grants help support important services for our communities that will limit our contribution to landfills and encourage recycling and reuse,鈥 said Gov. Beshear in a release. 鈥淭his will help us ensure our New Kentucky 国产麻豆 is clean and beautiful for generations to come.鈥

Three types of grants were awarded:

  • The recycling grants provide funds for counties to purchase recycling equipment to promote sustainable regional recycling infrastructure in Kentucky.鈥 There were 28 recycling grants awarded, totaling more than $3.8 million.
  • The composting grants fund the purchase of equipment to improve composting and promote creative solutions for managing food waste, lawn waste, and other organic material.鈥疦ine composting grants worth $1.25 million were announced.
  • The household hazardous waste grants provide support for counties to conduct annual drop-off events for their citizens to dispose of household chemicals, old electronics, and other potentially hazardous wastes. These include 33 household hazardous waste grants totaling more than $1 million.
