In 2017, 67.2 million tons of municipal solid waste were recycled in the US.
In addition, the recycling stats show that about 27 million tons of MSW (municipal solid waste) were composted. Considering that 267.8 million tons of MSW were generated, the percentage of recycled and composted waste was 35.2%.
