In June, the Solid Waste Disposal Authority (SWDA) of Baldwin County, in collaboration with the City of Daphne, officially launched its new curbside recycling program providing residents with a convenient opportunity to support a cleaner, more sustainable community.听
The first wave of recycling carts has already been delivered to more than 450 Daphne households that opted into the new service. Residents can recycle a variety of common household items made of paper, plastic, and aluminum. For a complete list of accepted materials, visit baldwincountyswda.org/recycling/recycling-details.听
鈥淭his program is about giving our residents the tools to make a real difference,鈥 said Daphne Mayor Robin LeJeune. 鈥淏y providing curbside recycling and supporting expanded facilities, we鈥檙e investing in a cleaner, more sustainable future for our city and all of Baldwin County.鈥听
Residents within Daphne city limits can sign up for curbside recycling at any time for $10 per month, which helps cover the cost of hauling, sorting, and responsibly processing recyclable materials. Daphne residents have the option of monthly, quarterly, or annual billing through SWDA of Baldwin County.听
鈥淩ecycling isn鈥檛 free鈥攈auling, sorting, and processing have real costs,鈥 said Terri Graham, Chief Executive Officer of SWDA. 鈥淭he new recycling program is optional, and a great way to make a difference. With the opening of our new Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) earlier this year and the upcoming launch of Alabama鈥檚 first CHaRM facility in Fairhope, we are building the infrastructure needed to significantly reduce landfill waste and give Baldwin County residents more sustainable options.鈥听
The curbside recycling rollout is part of a broader effort to expand recycling access countywide, while also preparing for the June 2025 opening of the Center for Hard to Recycle Materials (CHaRM) on Bishop Road in Fairhope. This new facility will accept items that are not suitable for curbside bins, including electronics, glass, batteries, lightbulbs, and household hazardous waste.听
SWDA plans to expand this recycling program across Baldwin County. Residents in other municipalities will be notified when curbside service becomes available in their area.
