The 2016 Environmental Research & Education Foundation (EREF) Fall Classic & Networking Event – to be held Thursday, November 17 at The Golf Trails of The Woodlands in The Woodlands, Texas – will be co-sponsored by Waste Connections and Waste Management. All proceeds from the tournament will support EREF’s mission to fund scientific research and educational initiatives to establish sustainable waste management practices.

This year, the tournament will be played on two courses, the Oaks and Panther Trails, to accommodate more players. The event tees off with a Welcome Reception on the evening of Wednesday, November 16 and play begins Thursday, November 17 at 8:30 am following a Breakfast. The Golf Tournament will conclude with an Awards Luncheon on Thursday afternoon. “Finding sustainable waste management practices is a key concern and Waste Connections is proud to support EREF’s mission to further research in this area,” said Jim Little, Waste Connections Senior Vice President of Engineering and Disposal and EREF Board member.

Since the tournament began in 1994, the EREF Fall Classic has raised more than $3 million. “The EREF Fall Classic is unlike many charitable events,” said Jim Dowland, Vice President of Waste Management and EREF Board member. “It is a unique opportunity that connects members across the industry to jointly support independent research and scholarship pertinent to the waste industry.”

The format for the Golf Tournament will be Four-Person Scramble with a Shotgun Start. Players on the first and second place teams will receive crystal commemoratives and a framed team photo. Hole-in-one prizes will be given at all par 3s, including the chance to win $50,000 cash. There will also be other prize winning opportunities, including the chance to win a $10,000 putting contest. The cost to participate in the tournament is $1,000 per player, $4,000 per foursome.
