The Washington State Recycling Association (WSRA), a nonprofit organization representing the state’s diverse recycling industry, presents their final Washington Recycles Every Day (WRED) event of 2015, “WARNING: Biohazard, Hospital Heroes and Handling Hazardous & Dangerous Wastes”. This educational workshop will take place on Thursday, October 22 from 9:00 AM to 3:30 PM at Murrey’s Disposal in Fife, with coffee and networking starting at 8:30 AM. Participants will learn about the flow of medical waste, the national and state laws that regulate safe handling and processing, and hear perspectives on challenges and opportunities of medical waste from hospitals, recyclers, collectors, and processors. The event will include a tour of Stericycle in Tacoma, a hazardous waste processing facility.

This is the first event of a two-part series that will take participants behind-the-scenes to explore the world of medical wastes (hazardous, dangerous, sharps, biohazard), from generation, to collection, and safe disposal. Part two will be held in 2016.  This event is open to the public and includes lunch, topic discussions and networking opportunities with leaders in Washington’s recycling industry. Medical professionals and students of all disciplines, as well as young environmental professionals are highly encouraged to attend. Registration costs are as follows: WSRA members $65, Non-members $85, students with a valid student ID $35.

To register for this event, visit or call the WSRA office at (206) 244-0311.
