The Washington State Recycling Association (WSRA), a nonprofit organization representing the state鈥檚 diverse recycling industry, presents their final Washington Recycles Every Day (WRED) event of 2015, 鈥淲ARNING: Biohazard, Hospital Heroes and Handling Hazardous & Dangerous Wastes鈥�. This educational workshop will take place on Thursday, October 22 from 9:00 AM to 3:30 PM at Murrey鈥檚 Disposal in Fife, with coffee and networking starting at 8:30 AM. Participants will learn about the flow of medical waste, the national and state laws that regulate safe handling and processing, and hear perspectives on challenges and opportunities of medical waste from hospitals, recyclers, collectors, and processors. The event will include a tour of Stericycle in Tacoma, a hazardous waste processing facility.
This is the first event of a two-part series that will take participants behind-the-scenes to explore the world of medical wastes (hazardous, dangerous, sharps, biohazard), from generation, to collection, and safe disposal. Part two will be held in 2016. 聽This event is open to the public and includes lunch, topic discussions and networking opportunities with leaders in Washington鈥檚 recycling industry. Medical professionals and students of all disciplines, as well as young environmental professionals are highly encouraged to attend. Registration costs are as follows: WSRA members $65, Non-members $85, students with a valid student ID $35.
